Ms Winterbottom: Advisers earn 113 million a year from mis-sold endowments
Ms Winterbottom, a housewife from Cardiff, was mis-sold an endowment mortgage by
a salesmen linked to Halifax in the 1990s. She was told that her endowment, from
Standard Life, would not only pay off her mortgage but provide a lump sum on top.
At no time were the risks pointed out.
Then Ms Winterbottom received a letter from Standard Life saying her endowment could
fall 18,000 pounds short of the 37,000 pounds she needed to pay off her mortgage.
She successfully made a claim for mis-selling, with the help of Endowmentclaims.com,
and received compensation.
Ms Winterbottom had no idea her adviser had been receiving commission every time
she paid her premiums. She said: 'I'm shocked that the adviser has been paid commission
even after it had been proved that he mis-sold me the policy.'
